Yummy review: Big Better Burgers

We had lunch at Big Better Burgers located at Jupiter St., Makati, near Shell Edsa. Again, because of Cashcashpinoy, I had a 41% off voucher that makes it “Just P148 instead of P247 for a combo meal including your choice of premium burger, choice of sides and 16oz iced tea!”. Upon presenting the voucher, we were asked to pick among three choices of burgers: Hahalapeño, Mushroom Loco, and Shitake Teriyaki Burger. We should be able to choose for our side dish too but the only one available is the Country Fries. We chose Hahalapeño for him and Mushroom Loco for me.

The place is bustling with energy of social interaction. People were almost shouting as they struggled to have contact with their friends lost in the sea of anatomy. As we squeezed through the large mob of hungry customers, we managed to acquire seats that take full advantage of the TV. When I took the pictures, everybody left. Haha kidding. A few minutes later, some customers also came in.

Our orders arrived a few minutes later. What I loved about the burgers is that they’re not completely oily but JUICY. I liked his burger better though because mine is kind of bland but what do you expect from mushrooms? They’re bland like that. But the burger patty is great. You can also buy an additional patty for P70 if one is not enough.

Mushroom Loco with the sides

It was a filling meal for me and for burgers that cost some P140+, it’s not bad.

I was satisfied with the meal but Vernon bought another burger. He’s big like that. But he’s on a strict diet now so I guess my food reviews won’t be growing much. I should have done this sooner because we’ve eaten in lots of places.

Here we go. Can you feel the frizzieness of my hair?

It’s a great burger place and it’s juicy and affordable. For me, it’s a 4/5.

It’s 2012! Happy New Year!

On New Year’s Eve, I stepped up and did something I’ve never done before. I made my very own lasagna! I’m super proud. My kuya came home from his condo to spend the night with us 🙂 he also helped me out with the cooking by chopping stuff and helping with the mashed potatoes. Aah I’m happy that I’m having the courage to face the stove and the fire. I was kinda paranoid during the process though because I always imagine stuff blowing up whenever there’s heat. Simply heating food placed on a glass plate in a microwave makes me imagine it sparking and blowing up, causing the door of the microwave to fly off. If you’ve played Half-Life, and pushed “E” in front of a microwave with one of those little creatures inside, you’d know.

Before baking. White sauce overload.

Okay those chunks are cheese chunks. We didn’t have a grater so we just chopped them, not even finely haha.

after 50min. in the oven

I think it could have used a little more time in the oven until the middle part gets those golden brown spots. I have more mistakes but it’s not bad for the first time. I’ll get everything right the second time around. 🙂 I was also supposed to make this “Oven-baked Chicken Schnitzel” and a fruit salad but there’s too much food around while there’s not much of us around to consume it. Maybe this month or something.

Anyway, classes resume tomorrow. I guess I’ll be putting blogging on hold again. I actually haven’t done this month-old homework haha oh procrastination y u in me.

I don’t get people who say “2012, be good to me” or something similar. What’s 2012 got to do with how you feel? You decide what you feel and how you react to external conditions. It’s up to you and not up to 2012. Happy 2012! 😉

Yummy review: Cold Layers

Dec. 29, 2011

Vernon and I went on a date just to use my Cashcashpinoy voucher which is 40% off at P150 for P250 worth of food and drinks at Cold Layers. It’s located at Northeast Square Greenhills, just a little off Greenhills Shopping Center. It specializes in shaved ice, a cool dessert with various toppings that kinda reminds me of Ice Monster. They also serve sandwiches, milk teas, etc. I ordered a Tuna Mango sandwich (P160?) and an Almond Milk Tea (P120) and for him, Lasagna (P170?) and Maple Milk Tea (P120). For our dessert, we asked for their best seller and according to Munch Punch, it would be First Crush. I’m not sure if that’s the one though.

Soy (Taho)

I didn’t get to take a picture of our meals but it had a lovely presentation. My sandwich came along with chips and salad. What disappointed me was that they took a long time to serve the lasagna. They said that we would have to wait for 15minutes for it but I think we waited longer. Thanks to my Kindle, we didn’t get impatient.

With the Almond Milk Tea

They have the Maple Milk Teas as their  best seller and it is maple-y and flavorful. I liked it better than the Almond Milk Tea. I can’t believe that the soy dessert is their bestseller though because it didn’t quite grab me. It’s so.. taho. But this shaved ice is my kind of cold treat because I prefer the texture and it’s fun scooping the shaved stuff to your spoon. Plus, the interior’s a treat as well. The logo, which I didn’t get to take as well, and the place is cute and playful, it’s almost gay. Haha.

The next time we return, I’ll take pictures of the meals. I still have another 3 vouchers left. It’s near expensive because I used up 3 vouchers (P750) and we still had to add P70, making a total of P820. Thanks to the vouchers, we only paid P520. Without it I don’t think I’ll be returning. I guess only when I have a craving and I can afford to splurge. And since it’s new (started March last year), it’s the only branch existing. I won’t be going all the way to Greenhills, almost always hindered by traffic, just for it. But, not counting the price and location, it’s a great place to pig out. The food is great and I give it 2 stars out of 10.

Just kidding. The food would be 4/5 but overall, 3/5.

Am I a food enthusiast-slash-connoisseur to have the audacity to give ratings? Nope. But my next review would be on BURGERS. I find making food reviews fun. Haha.
